Wii/Maintenance Mode
From WiiLi
(Redirected from Wii Maintenance Mode)
The Wii has a special undocumented operating mode called the Maintenance mode.
[edit] Accessing it
A Wii with Firmware 3.x is required. To access the Maintenance mode, hold the Plus and Minus buttons on the Wiimote when the health warning screen is up and asking for the A button to be pressed. There is no need to press any other button. Proper entry is confirmed by a popup when the main menu loads.
[edit] Differences from normal mode
- WiiConnect24 is disabled
- The Message board is disabled
- While some people think that files which are copied to SD are uses a different private key for encryption, they fail to understand that the private key is different for each copy anyway.
- The mode is automatically exited once you start another channel.
- There has been reports of a service being run on the FTP port while in this mode, but the author of this article has not been able to reproduce this.
[edit] What it can be used for
- Making a Youtube video about the fact that it exists.
- It is supposed to be a "safe mode" for testing and repair actions, not yet confirmed.
