IN DEVELOPMENT - 6th LAYOUT - DO NOT EDIT

Welcome to WiiLi.org
WiiLi is our long-term goal: Linux for the Wii. However, before we will reach that point, a lot of information about the Wii needs to be gathered. Before we will be able to make WiiLi it must be possible to run homebrew software on the Wii. Until then we are working on WiiLi Link, a Live CD that turns a standard PC into a media and gaming center designed around the Wii Remote. We're developing on PCs right now, with hopes of porting WiiLi to the Wii later on.

  • You've spent money in the Wii Shop Channel, but you can't use it without an update. And an update won't allow you to play homebrew? Here's the solution:
  • Muzer has released Wii Shop and IOS51 installer, a very quick hack of PatchMii that allows you to access the wii shop channel without losing all the functionality of fakesigned stuff.

  • Waninkoko Reconsidering ISO Loader Project?
    • Quote from Waninkoko - It wasn’t the leak what pissed me off the most, but all the people downloading it, sharing it, making tutorials, and such. I recognize that 50% of that is my fault and… i think i’m gonna reconsider the cancelation (well, the bit about making it public because canceled it’s not XD).

?Then you’re coming back to the project?

If you read carefully, it is stated that the project is not canceled, but he is thinking he is gonna make it public when he finishes it.

  • Looks like Waninkoko is reconsidering the ISO Loader project

  • Wii ISO Loader LEAKED! and DISCONTINUED!
    • Word around that the ISO loader HAVE been leaked. Please keep in mind that it is NOT the official release from Waninkoko and is only the BETA version. Due to me not supporting piracy I will not post a direct link to the loader.

Source http://wii.waninkoko.info/

Sources have speculated that this release could possibly have been breached by brakken himself. This supposed "leak" in the wii homebrew community has stirred a large controversy up.

  • Gecko OS v1.07
  • CHANGES

1. USB Gecko Rebooter with Master hook!

2. Universal System Menu rebooter options!

What is Rebooter?

This is pure USB Gecko awesomeness, What this does is reboots the console but with a ‘Master Hook’ enabled. Which means you can use WiiRD just about anywhere, including the system menu itself for remote debugging, downloading, testing patches or in any games.

If you are a cheat code hacker, master hook will stay alive when your game is loaded so you can remote debug any game that wasn’t possible with GeckoOS normal loader. We have even created a silent loader which will also boot all Multi DOL games like Red Steal and house of the dead 2/3 which was not possible before!.

Exta Rebooter Options: (Can be used even if no USB Gecko)

1. Boot into Recovery Diagnostics mode (Boots Nintendo Diagnostic DVD’s) 2. Boot all Import Games (Wii & Gamecube) (no modchip required!) As an added bonus our patch detects the game inserted and will patch the correct TV mode. All DVD update checks will be removed when this is selected. 3. Skip Button check - Just skips the A button check. 4. No Copy flag. With this enabled, you can now copy your protected Wii save games (SSBB etc) to SD card in the system menu as you would any other save!

As an added bonus for None USB Gecko users i’ve added ocarina to work with rebooter. Just make sure its enabled in the ‘config’ menu like before

Rebooter uses progressive scan patching so will work on all regions and versions System Menu 3.2 and 3.3

Again we didn’t have time to add Ocarina / WiiRD to Gamecube mode, but we know how now so expect to see this very soon.

Some Gargon: ———–

All patches, multi dol loader, rebooter and game detection / TV Mode stub is all original code written by myself (Nuke) and kenobi in pure PPC asm, the USB Gecko master hook is the same USB Gecko server used in GeckoOS, so WiiRD, Cheats etc work with rebooter without modifications.

No IOS or other NAND hacks are used in the program

For developers - Our detection code and stub is locatated at 81700000 with the server at 80001800 which will be activated when a Game is inserted and Game ID read, TV Mode is switched in this code also. The Multi DOl loader is at 80001000 and this patches the menu to keep Hooks alive when Game Dol’s are reloaded, i.e main.dol is overwritten by redsteel.dol etc.

The system menu is located in memory at 0×81330000, you can dump this in WiiRD.

One final note, I noticed sometimes the patches are not fully wiped from memory even when hard reset, if this happens just eject the game and power off for a few minutes.

  • ISO Loader from Waninkoko coming soon?
    • Sources are reporting that Waninkoko have given some betatesters an app that loads ISOs on an unmodded wii. Waninkoko himself, confirmed that these rumors are true… word around is that it will be released in 2 weeks. There is also another app that is being “rumored”, which is a multidisc Wii game, which is similar to GCOS Multigame for the Gamecube. The Wii scene is getting brighter each day..

  • Wii Gamecube Launcher v0.2: Now with front SD Card support!
  • Changes in Version 0.2
  1. Support for front SD slot.
  2. Gamecube disc should work normally.
 Background Information
  • DOL loader is patched into MIOS. If Wii switches to Gamecube mode, the DOL loader is always started. The loader will start Gamecube homebrew if loaded by GCBooterHomebrew. The loader launches the normal GC loader if no homebrew is detected. This behaviour can be disabled by reinstalling a normal MIOS. I don’t have a Gamecube disc, so I don’t have tested it. • Custom IOS Module
    • This is merely a tool for developers to create their own custom IOS

This package contains the necessary basic tools and project files needed to create a custom IOS module and interact with it. This is perfect for running test code on the Wii’s IOS system. Sourcecode is delivered for all tools and projects. For compiling the ARM IOS code, devkitARM (arm-elf or arm-eabi) is needed. For compiling the PPC Wii code, devkitPPC and libOGC are needed. Package contents:

  • stripios: This is a tool that will take a tradional ARM ELF file and converts it into a format the IOS system understands.
  • iosmodule: This is the project which will create a custom IOS module.

In order to create a working IOS module, you must supply the fixed absolute memory addresses for the module to live in, in the linker script. Currently, it defaults to the memory addresses set by the DIP module from IOS31. To install a custom IOS module, you need to add it to the TMD of an existing IOS, and allocate it with an unused content id, or replace an existing one. Currently, the produced IOS module is tested by replacing the DIP module from IOS 31. This is done by letting patchmii install IOS 31 as IOS 254, and replacing the contents of the DIP module with the custom IOS module. The example main source file sets up a device called “/dev/haxx” and allows you to read/write to the IOS memory space (currently limited to the module’s memory space because it is running from usermode), and allows you to upload and execute custom code.

  • iostester: This is the project which will interact with the custom IOS module.

In the first step, a completely position independent ARM program is compiled, and the file arm.bin is produced. The ARM program is made position indepdenent by means of an global offset table (GOT), which the ARM program will automatically correct upon boot up. Then the arm.bin file is automatically added into the PPC program, so that it can upload it to the custom IOS module, and let it execute it from the IOS side.

  • cIOS Patchmii Installer v2.0
    • Note: This is not a Waninkoko release

This program will download IOS37 from the Nintendo update servers, patch it, and install it as IOS249–making a completely functional “clone” of Waninkoko’s cIOS. This process does not involve any system-critical parts of the system, and should be completely safe. Of course, however, this software comes with no warranty whatsoever.

Also, if this applications detects IOS249 installed, it will attempt uninstallation. So… You can run it once to install, run it again to uninstall. Pretty simple.

  • Gecko OS 1.06f
    • Update to Gecko OS now with Ocarina and Gamecube Mode

Things fixed.

Gamecube Games / Imports now supported (thanks bushing!) Date and Time issue fixed in games like Wii Sports, Brawl. Glitching games fixed, i.e Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, Metroid Prime 3 etc. Sound fixed in Twilight Princess when using Gecko OS, WiiRD SD Card bug fixed. Now you can still access the SD Card when using ocarina. Disabled Wiimote when going in GC mode to avoid battery drainage. Added.

Ocarina (thanks Link) Some Extra hook types. Turn Off and On Ocarina. Some backend features have been added. Things to note:

Ocarina just works as before, the codes need to be placed in the folder ‘codes’ on the SD card. Ocarina can be turned off in the config menu.

  • GCBooter v1.0
    • From emu_kidid comes a new bit of homebrew that’ll let you load GameCube games while in Wii mode. As the Wiibrew website describes it, GCBooter is “a simple application which allows anyone to boot their original GC games from Wii mode. It is region free and works from the homebrew channel.”

Here are the (very simple) instructions on how to use GCBooter:

Just copy the GCBooter folder into your /apps/ folder on your card and run it via the homebrew channel. Insert your GameCube disc and press A on the GameCube controller a few times.

Again, we suggest you consult the readme for installing and using this application. That said, the source code has also been included in this release, so those of you who want to learn from it can do so. Enjoy!
