Starting a thread for X.org problems that might surface.
Firstly, input device.
Using xmodmap I think all the buttons on the mote could be assigned and use something like libstroke to make a simple movement-to-keyboard input for something like xvkbd or something better looking like GOK.
Hardware acceleration could be a tricky one. We all know how pathetic ATI is with its drivers and being a Wii, im sure its not just a radeon. Something open-source will need to be pursued and something might need to be modified. Its going to be pretty huge. I guess once a basic system is booting on it, some handy testing can begin.
Thoughts? Ideas? |

In regards to the testing I'd be glad to help with that. _________________ Supah Mario ownz j00 f00!~

I agree. My technical skills in this area are lacking at the moment, but I'd be glad to test for the time being. |

Look at the GC-Linux, IIRC, it still doesn't have hardware acceleration. Of course, currently there is only a handful of people still working on it off and on. A big push should be made initially while people are still interested. After about two years many will lose interest and move on. So right after the initial work of booting, and such is done, movement should quickly go into getting hardware acceleration either by reverse engineering the chip (not easy) or by trying to hack up a driver that might work (from ATI.) That's just what I think though. |

| Agreed. Im guessing only from the overall price of the Wii, its simply a re-badge of an ATI card. More info on this will appear as the internals are queried by a working kernel! |

Isn't the chip an aquisition by ATI, and not even related to Radeon?
With the move to modular X, it should be easier to implement Xorg than the previous monolithic Xorg build. Compile and test changes in mere minutes, instead of about an hour. |
