Basically, you'd need two people with Wiimotes to wear IR LEDs on their chests. Then setup a simple GlovePIE script that waits for someone to press the B button on their Wiimote. When pressed, it checks to see if that Wiimote has an IR dot centered in its view. If so, the other Wiimote rumbles to let that person know they've been shot.

Sounds totally doable to me.

Hehe. You also need a very good bluetooth device. 10m isn't enough for that.
I think you ought to put the ir-diods in some kind of shape so you can play more then one person. Then Glovepie checks the shape and knows who's been shot.

only two players are possible as they are no ways to distinguish between different IR sources. BT class 1 has 100 meters, but AFAIK the Wiimote can only handle class 2, so no more than 10 meters are possible.

Okey. Then the computer has to be in the middle of the "arena". So a circle of 20 meter in diameter?

I was already thinking about this, but I only have 1 wiimote, and my sensor bar is USB instead of wireless.

Perhaps if you used a flashing LED source, or gave each person a number of lights set up in a regular pattern, then you could do it with more than two players.

Anyway, I've got lots of spare LEDs, so I've just found an old battery case, put 2 AA batteries in it and stuck an LED in the end with wet toilet paper over the top. Then I will tape it to someone's chest, and try to shoot them.

The Wiimote has enough range for my entire house, and my house is fairly big, so no problems there.

A friend brought his Wii over and two remotes, so maybe we will give it a go!

By the way, I just broke my wrist strap playing Wii bowling, and my wiimote went crashing into the ceiling and floor. It is still in good condition though.

We need to make the shooters wiimote to make a sound too. Is the speaker in the wiimote documented enough for uss to make a "bang!" sound when we shoot? (Even if we miss the shot)

Haha that's great. Yes, the Wiimote is capable of playing sounds (using GlovePIE). That'd be a pretty fun thing to do. Also, if you had that gun mod attachment Nintendo showcased once, or made one, it'd be super slick.
