I suggest getting some real hacking going, or this project will die.
If the Opera hacks dont come, why not start a donation bin as a prize for the person that finds the crack that leads to running code on the Wii?
Id donate to that cause. And maybe some of the income on those Google ads can go into it! |

I'm pretty sure the ads pay for the dedicated server. However, people are working to to WiiLi, just not everything is released to the public obviously. _________________ -deceased-

Personally i'm against prize schemes like that. While it may inspire one individual or a small team to work on a project, it also closes off the flow of information.
People stop sharing because they want the money, and if they give away a key piece of info, then someone else may get the prize.
And rarely does the prize pot ever get large enough to cover development costs of a full team for the duration of the project.
It has a tendency to counter everything that open source projects bring to the table.

wouldn't it be counterproductive to use said revenue and donations for something other than to support the site and the cause?
I can see your point on how it would incite motivation but we want developers to work together not separately.
So I'm all for donations and ads (minimally however) as long as they are used productively such as for expense purposes, keeping wiili up and running without any financial trouble. |

I little stab at Verizon? I liked it even if it wasn't...but on topic. I agree with you guys.
Anyway, there's a much better end prize...the enjoyment of running Linux on your Wii. _________________ -deceased-

I'd like to take some rather large stabs at verizon (my current cell carrier who seems to extend my contract every time i sneeze) but this was actually accidental.
What did they do that I might have been referencing here? |
