I tried to find some information about what chip is used in the wiimote for sensor bar reading and couldn't find anything specific except it's made by PixArt ( http://www.pixart.com.tw/ and http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=11557 ).
Has anyone figured out exactly what chip(s) are begin used for this and maybe even found the specifications?

there was a post on the wiki of this guy who even built a replacement.
The page was all in japanese though so you might need some translating software and a lot of patience.
