Has the GUI for Wiili been decided yet? I'm just asking because I predict that normal WIMP user interfaces won't work that well with the Wiimote.. unless they use very big icons and that isn't really a cool solution.
IMHO a better alternative would be to construct a simple full screen application that presents a more suitable GUI on top of the Wiili Xserver. It could look a bit like the current "Wii user interface", but of course we would be free to innovate (and should).
The "GUI-application" could run tasks on the background via DBUS, sockets and CLI. For instance it could use MPD for music and embed gstreamer for video. Of course the user could just close the application and use a standard desktop environment like KDE or gnome if she so desires.
I for one would be interested in creating a user interface. Any one else? Would this be a total loss of time? _________________ "Working with Unix is like wrestling a worthy opponent. Working with

Thinking about what I would use Wiili for I end up with these (in order of importance):
Watching movies
Listening to music
Running Apache and SVN (would be excellent if they ran like wiiconnect, so that the console should have to be on all the time)
Playing games
I'd guess the average Joe won't be interested in the 3rd. Looking into these I came to think about a modified Freevo (on sourceforge) that would contain support for multiple cursors via mpx.
Could be cool _________________ "Working with Unix is like wrestling a worthy opponent. Working with

I have an idea for a possible wiili interface.
On screen would be a collection of packaged boxes, with an icon on each to represent the application or function it launches. When clicked with the "A" button, a box would open, and show a name and logo above it. A series of options could be displayed next to this such as launch, close, copy etc.
When the "B" trigger is held, the pointer hand would change to a grabbing position and the box could be moved around the screen. This would allow the user to organize and place boxes wherever they want on screen.
This could be extended to stack boxes or allow them to be resized. There would be more room for customizing than the standard wii channels. |

You could always try the Enlightenment GUI
Which reminds me of Tiger but anyway it's got good skinning options.
so a WiiLi Skin could come in |
