| I just happened across this. It seems someone has found a way to pirate the VC games. Now I'm not suggesting that we pirate anything, but if it's possible to load a VC game that has been altered off of an SD card, is there A way we could get WiiLi to run the same way? Create a WiiLi Channel? |

I wouldn't be surprised if the virtual console is hacked though.
All VC games have to be encrypted somewhere along the line, either:
1. The wii sends an encryption key to nintendo, and the game is encrypted server side, or
2. Nintendo send the unencrypted game to the wii, and it's then encrypted before it can run
In either of these cases, wouldn't it be possible to work out how the encryption system works by packet sniffing?
Also, is there some sort of method to analyse 2 games from each of 2 different wii's, and try to find the unencrypted games as well as the encryption used?
As a side note, for people in Australia/NZ, if you want a Turbografx game, it's as simple as changing the region of your Wii, I know for a fact this works because I bought 2000 Wii points while the region was set as Australia, changed my Region to UK, bought Bomberman and Dungeon Explorer, then changed back to Australia and they work perfectly. |

If method 2 were correct then somebody should be able to download the games on their computer, host them, download them from their webserver onto the wii and play.
Perhaps instead the games come from the server encrypted by a generic key system similar to the NDS. The decrypting key is in the firmware and the encrypting key is in a vault @ Redmond. Once the games are downloaded and decrypted they are then re-encrypted for that specific wii.

| #1 cannot be correct, because my Wii is never online, and I play games just fine. |

He meant while you're downloading it. Which in that case your Wii is obviously online. _________________
