Alien Syndrome plays something like Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. Just swap out the medieval setting for a futuristic one and there you go.

You have a total of 40 levels to run through in which you smite alien scum with all manner of weaponry. For added depth, there are five classes which lets you specialize in a few areas such as explosives, projectiles, or melee. There are some neat little mini-games involving the Wii remote that require you to alter your dna (stat boosts), repair broken locks or special items, or repair damaged weapons for use yourself.

One important thing to note is that camera control is mapped to the nunchuck. Twist it to the side [doorknob], to rotate the camera and get a better view of your surroundings.

As much fun as I've had plugging in numerous hours with the game, I've noticed a few sore spots along the way:

-Production Values: Alien Syndrome isn't something you'll want to write home about. The sound effects are very bland, and graphcially could use a little more polish. Story is nothing special.

-Camera: Using the nunchuck wasn't a problem for the most part, but I would rather have had it mapped to a face button for more control, as there are times when you're hard pressed to stand still and adjust it when you get swarmed on later stages.

-Filler Levels: Maybe this is or isn't the right word to use, but it feels like some of the levels are added to stretch out the plot at times.

-Overhead Structures: Gaming no-no #1: If an arch or any overhead structure is blocking my view to the point that I can't see enemies or I run headfirst into an ambush, chances are you shouldn't have included it.

Alien Syndrome is an old-school affair, so anyone looking for something new or fresh might want to look elsewhere.

I assume movement is on the nunchuck analog, but what about aim? Does she just shoot the direction she's facing, or is there some additional aiming? Does the ir pointer have any function?

When I first saw this, I was wondering if a shooter would still be fun if it wasn't first person. It might be one thing to download something last gen off of the VC, but somehow it just seems wrong retail.

Point and shoot.
