Everyone seems to be obsessed with the idea of the sensor bar these days, myself included. When I look at my moniter i shutter about having a brick sitting ontop or under it. That's when i realised that I wanted to install the IRs inside of the monitor and that I did not want to cut up the monitor doing so. I've taken out my cheesy monitor speakers and have installed a IR setup running the four leds off of the USB (With resisters of course...) I’m not getting much from them because I wanted to keep everything hidden and very discrete. My problem is that once the leds are installed, they only give a few inches of reception. The plastic "holes" that I assumed would give no problems to the signal seem to be breaking up the beam. Anyone have any ideas about how to boost the signal strength to overcome this without cutting up my monitor? I’ve tried a couple of low tech options like putting aluminum foil around the leds and to my surprise, it actually gave almost twice the signal distance with the wiimote. (this was still only about two feet instead of one!). I'll post pics tomorrow because my valentines date is pissed that I’ve been messing with this all night instead of her...Any suggestions would be great.
It’s also worth noting that this is my first electronics project ever. I literally learned how to solder and reviewed my high school physics to get this simple project off the ground. |
