Just found this article at wii.qj.net, in which someone has their Wii sensor bar unplugged and a pair of candles are set in its place near the television. They then proceed to move the Wii-mote around, and the movements actually register!

What do you think, is it the real deal, or just a hoax?

I'm also linking the You Tube video as well.

thats so fake. And even if that was possible ( which its not ), the pointer would move around and flicker because the flame are moving and stuff.

Doesn't anybody here know what he's talking about?!
Of course it's real. The Wii-Sensorbar emits infrared light, to give the pointer of the Wiimote two orientation points. Candles, like every other lightsource emit infrared light, too. So if it's dark enough it will work with no problems.

All you need are two sources of infrared light beside each other with a short distance between them for the Wiimote to triangulate.

Nothing false about it.
