Is there a possibility that you will have different ready-made ISO's with different software packages on it? Perhaps a nice slim distro with just the basics, a TIVO distro, and a really heavy one with tons of nice apps and features? I think it would be nice to have all of them on hand so i can have anything i need at hand. |

| I'm planing on initial very basic ISO with a regular Linux desktop on it (think Knoppix). After is ready the whole Linux-Wii community will develop things like you mentioned and a lot more. |

| I think the best solution would be to have the ISO be for the most part self contained (though you should have a "lite" version that'd be on a CD), but expandable via the SD card. That way, only firmware upgrades would need a new disc. |

My opinion... just make the very basic ISO (only if you upgrade the firmware to an improved version should u ever replace the ISO) then, since we will have linux working, we could just go on the itnernet, go to wiili.org, and downoad the apps onto an SD card. My thoughts exactly Also, this could extend the browser (which we'd change to firefox of course) to include Java support, as well as anything else we want.
However, I (and I'm sure most users) will be using the official Wii OS if it can do what I want it to do. WiiLi is only for things it can't do, so remember that you want it to do more than the Wii already can (that's why iPodLinux kinda died, though it could play Doom). You've got to think above and beyond a normal TV or computer, I mean why use WiiLi if you can use a PC? That's why I'm thinking things like blender would be perfect. Imagine being able to manipulate 3d with the Wiimote! |

Indeed - I've always imagined using 3D studio software with a holographic display and my fingers.
Doing a dual wiimote setup (A+B to grab) where you can use various button combinations to make up for keystrokes would be amazing. The only downside would be that the Blender OS is so sleek when you're left hand is on a keyboard... I guess there's no reason that still wouldn't work though.
This is going to be so sweet for the Indy scene if it lives up to it's potential. |
