Ok, I have a challenge for you peoples of the script writing persuasion.
Come up with a script for use with Pro/Engineer Wildfire that will control movement of the 3d model using the axis of the wii remote. Also, shortcuts to quick tools such as extrusions, revolves, etc; as well as quick reorientation to standard orientation. Spinning the model using the remote should be a feature toggled to a buttion, as in works when a button is pressed, and stops working when its not. No pointer to mouse functionality is required, as a standard mouse will still be used.
If you can pull this off, the wii remote will replace a several hundred dollar device that does the same thing.

Are you talking about controlling the movement of an object on your computer screen with the Wiimote similar to the trophies in Excite Truck?
I've only used one 3D program before (Rhino3D) but it doesn't seem like it'd be hard to do it for that. If I knew the hotkeys for Wildfire I could probably do it. |

Yeah, we might be able to help you if you could provide us with the keyboard/mouse controls that usually trigger these actions.
But then again, you mentioned another "device" that was meant to do this. What is the device? How is it hooked up to the computer? Does it require specific drivers to make it work within the program? |

Thats a video of said peripheral. I'm trying to google the shortcut keys, because I don't really know them. Ctrl+D sets standard orientation. Nothing else has a shortcut key listed, but I know they exist.
EDIT: I found a few
v1 re-orients to ISO1 view
vbk Re-orients to Back
vbm re-orients to bottom
vd re-orients to default (same as ctrl+d above)
vf reorients to front
vl reorients to left
vr reorients to right
vt reorients to top
Still not sure how to control free view without using the mouse, though.
EDIT again:
Looks like shortcuts can be mapped manually. Since thats the case, the only scripting I need done for me is for rotation of the model corresponding to rotation of the wiimote. I have no idea how to do this without using it as the mouse. |

The Wii is not a 6DOF tracking device. The best you will be able to manage is to modify my 5DOF tracking script. It only works in 5DOF when you are pointing at the sensor bar. You will need to delete the part that actually sets mouse.x and mouse.y, because we don't want to control the cursor. Then look at the pitch yaw, roll, x, y, and z values and map them to controls in Pro/Engineer Wildfire.
