|

I have just purchased a Western Digital 400 GB SATA HD. I am trying to install it in a computer with a 120GB WD IDE HD. I tried to just hook it up. Bios recognized it, but I could not boot from my XP installation on my IDE. I have been researching it and have found I may just need to change the boot order. I would also like to install Ubuntu 7.10 on the SATA but leave a portion of the SATA to windows. I will try the boot order after I get home from school and post weather it worked or not. If anyone could give me hints or suggestions on either the HD or Ubuntu, It would be most appreciated.
Thanks

| I got home and plugged the drive in while the computer was running so it boots fine now. If anyone would be able to give suggestions as to Ubuntu and Linux it would be most appreciated. I have to convince my parents of Linux being a good system to duel-boot with windows. |

im not an anti linux dude, just wondering why you want them to use linux?
would they benefit at al from it?
i tried linux and i didnt feel i got any special benefits, so im on a Vista/Xp dualboot now
to show them Linux, why not just run a LiveCD?
Kubuntu whould be my choice _________________ Project starter/leader of TrueLoveDS |

| This is my personal computer. My parents each have their own laptops. I want it to learn more about programming, have better security features, and a more stable system. I did some research over the summer and it seems that Ubuntu would be the best choice for me. Right now I don't really have a preference of KDE or Gnome. I have run the live CD and the only problem that I encountered was my wireless may not pick up in ubuntu. It seemed to see my card and reacted to it but could not connect to the network. Even windows has trouble (low and very low signal strength). |
