Nifty...also they are getting dvd drives too eventually. I heard in January but I'm not too sure anymore.
Kinda makes me wish I had waited so I could get one that has DVD capabilities and is black.
However, the white ones are pretty pimpin'. _________________ -deceased-

| I could be wrong [just got my wii this morning], but I'm guessing the only difference in the 'new' wii in january will be a new firmware version pre-installed that has dvd playback and the internet channels already enabled, while the rest of us will download them through updates. It is possible that the dvd playback might end up being a channel that has to be purchased, but I don't see there being any hardware changes required to enable it (or at least I hope not). |

Ya I hope not too . It'd be nice to watch DVD's on my tv and not have to use my PC all the time. _________________ -deceased-

Wii's not getting DVD playback in a firmware upgrade.
The Wikipedia article on the Wii:
| Quote: | | A Nintendo spokesperson has confirmed that Nintendo plans to release a version of the console with DVD-Video playback capabilities in Japan, but that release in other territories is not currently planned. This corroborates an earlier press release by digital media company Sonic Solutions, stating that Nintendo had chosen their CinePlayer CE DVD Navigator software engine to provide this functionality. Even though software will be used to enable DVD-Video functionality, it apparently "requires more than a firmware upgrade" and cannot therefore be implemented through the WiiConnect24 network.[34] |
The source there confirms it too. |

True...but it's too bad. That could have been a real easy way to use WiiLi Live. Still, I guess you could mod and do that. _________________ -deceased-
