Before you ignore this, i'm not asking for money!
My friend stopped at my house last night to feed my cat while I'm away. In the minutes while he was inside, thieves burgled his car, taking his Wii, 2x controllers, 2x nunchuks, classic controller, wii sports, wii play, Zelda, a blue DS lite, all his Christmas presents (for himself and his family and friends) and the body of his recently deceased pet hamster (which is kinda bizzare, I know, but true!).
The police were called, and it looks like the contents were insured. Still, it means a Christmas without presents or his brand new Wii, and a lot of emotional anguish, as you can probably imagine.
We started to think about ways of making Christmas that little bit harder for the thieves. His DS was a Japanese import, and so will likely fry if they try to plug it in with an EU plug (we live in the UK), so there's that... But as for the Wii, we started thinking about the fact that it was connected to the internet and linked to my console, and our thoughts went like this:
A) Spam the f*ck out of it. Although I'm not sure if that'd cause any real problems for the thieves...
B) I wonder if i sent an email to it from my Wii (as they were linked) reading something like 'This console is stolen, the police have been informed. Please contact etc etc' if they tried to sell it on, somebody might turn them in?
C) If we emailed Nintendo UK and told them of our plight, do you think there's any way they could like trace the IP of the console and either locate it and inform the authorities or just plain block it (or brick it!) from ever accessing Wii Connect services?
Any thoughts? |

You can only e-mail th Wii if they send you an e-mail first. Then you can reply to it.
Inform Nintendo, sure, but you'd need the serial number on the bottom and they might not go for it.
That's a major rip though. I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up in pawn shops...
Why the hamster though? Those bastards! _________________ -deceased-

The DS won't fry. The power is converted within the net-adapter.
I use my Jap Ds with an EU power adapter, all the time. |

Well the DS should be easy to spot if resold as it's a navy blue DS Lite in the UK (import only!) and even more rare it has white buttons and stylus, as I swapped them for my own!
I'll let my friend know about the serial number, thanks. He says he hasn't been able to find any contact details for Nintendo UK - anyone know where to find them? |
