Im guessing it will reach some PR dude, so I guess I will have to explain what Linux is right? And a bit of its philosophy. A quick question does any1 know the legality issue in doing this? Are there any, can I work my way around them in the letter?

Yea, I personally think it is a bad idea. I highly doubt they will help at all.

I think they will respect the project more if we are open and honest to them about it. Also, if we support their position on discouraging piracy, they will probably be happy with us. I don't see the availability of linux for the Wii as a big problem for Nintendo since most people will probably get a Wii for the games. Having Linux as an option would just encourage people that are into linux to get a Wii too.

With Nintendo's support, we would be able to legally use information directly from the SDK, offer WiiLi through virtual console and have the tools to more easily optimize performance and make this a serious piece of software.

I don't think there's a very good chance it'll happen, but we've got a much worse chance at "keeping this a secret" from them since the open source community is about being, uhm.... -open-

I'd say go for it, but it'd be great if you could post the letter for proofreading before sending it off. We should at least put our best foot forward.

I don't know how much Nintendo will help out, but it's worth a shot, IMHO.
