I doubt he intends to enforce it. Rather, it's meant to be symbolic. It's a representation of his political views. Whether or not his software license is the place to express said views, that's up to Carl and the users. |
I tend to agree. And a man is entitled to his views, even if I don't share them. However his talent and generosity don't insulate him from a blow back. I doubt he'd want them to.
There's nothing that stops users from returning in kind (not through absurdly 'banning' users, but countering the POV). You think his anti-military view needs balancing, write a killer glovepie script with a license header expressing your support for...whatever.
You think his anti-religious bigotry needs countered? Express the importance of tolerance for differing views in your license header.
Think his Israel rant borders on anti-semitism? Give the other side of Israel's predicament and say you support their attempts at self-defense and survival in an impossible situation.
Think he's not pro-open-source enough--rant about that.
It'd be nice if the development community were just focused on functionality and politics were taken to political forums, but if one guy is going to push his views and you don't want others to think you are tacitly supporting those views just because you use his tools, say so (or sign someone else's petition). Both are equally futile, but users of the tool have as much right to express themselves as the maker. Hopefully both will value brevity as well. |

So can people in China use it? I mean, look at what China is doing. And Japan with the whaling. List goes on and on.
This ban against Israel is really ridiculous. What if you're just a kid, in Israel. You have no control where you live. It's not your fault. And then you can't use a program because of what other people in your country are doing.
Why not ban it in Iraq for that matter.
Good job on being an ignorant git, Carl.
Here's an idea! Ban it in Australia and America! Think about all the things that happened there, and are still happening.
I'm out this craphole of a bigotry community. Don't even waste your time to reply to this, because I won't be around to read it. |

I agree with Fank on this specificly, there are tons of other governaments that deserve this kind of protest (aswell lots of entities and groups that arent governaments)
but to be fair, there isn't a a rule on the license that forbids people born on that country from using it on other countries nor anything like that (unless that person falls under another of the conditions mentioned on the license that forbid them from using it for other reasons _________________ please put the scripts on the wiki so they dont get lost as new stuff is posted!
