If it was open-source it probably would be converted and added so people can write scripts for applications that need special ones.

From my understanding, it uses the Windows API and DirectInput to simulate key press and the mouse. It probably uses a lot of Windows-based things. It might be easier to code something from scratch, rather than to try to port foreign Windows-based code. A port would be unlikely.

There would be a few advantages, however, like GlovePIE's scripts working universally, but that's possible without GlovePIE being OSS, as long as Carl cooperated.

I signed anyways.

I signed too. That's pure discrimination. I don't think that Sushi will use this program for military purposes or killing the USA ; he hasn't done anything against them.
It's not because some Isrealians do bad things that all Isrealians do bad things.

I thought it was a joke but now I can see it's real... I boycott that thing.

That fund only helps people, this ban isn't helping anyone in any way. If that isn't discrimination then what is?

It's the same to me. That fund only helps people based on certain criteria....just as this software does. The world is unfair, get over it....do something constructive with your time other than trying to start shit on a forum on Xmas day.

Guys, nothing is happening unless Carl decides it to change. Create a 1.000 petitions, nothing is happening. It's not lawfully forbidden to limit access to Israel or any country for that matter, so boo-fucking-hoo, cry me a river.

I know Carl has the right to do what he wants, but I have the right to express my opinion also, and I think it's bullshit. There's just no reason for the ban except to be a dick.

Wether or not I agree on the ban is unimportant. Carl spent his good hard time on that program. He, other then donations, isn't making one cent off that program. It's his property, and he can choose whomever he wants to use it. Sure it may seem unfair, but that's his decision.

If you had a car, and I just came up to you and asked, "Can I use your car for a bit." Even if I had all the best intentions in the world, there is a good chance you're not going to hand over the keys.

Sure the example is far fetched, and it looks like no one is going to convince you otherwise of your opinion. IMO, it's a moot subject.

PS: Maybe if you donated some cash to him, and requested he remove the ban for you, or all of israel, maybe he would do it.

Ugh. I was torn on if i should post or not.

I don't want to just fan the flames, but i suppose my input is just as valid as the next guy's.

Carl, as an individual, is free to do whatever he wishes with his software license. I'm sorry that it affects you adversely. He put his time into creating a project, and can market it as he sees fit. He has put restrictions on the software that are in line with his personal views and has every right as an individual, and a developer, to do such.

One of two things is likely to happen.

1. people will ignore his license and work around it. Piracy happens everywhere.

2. another individual will come up with a system to compete with his, and will be adopted based on both its technical merits as well as its licensing terms.

The man's standing up for something he believes in, and I personally have to commend him for it. Again, I'm sorry that it negatively affects you. Write and ask if he would be willing to make an exception. I doubt a donation from you will honestly sway him one way or another, someone as passionate as he appears to be about his beliefs will not likely be swayed by $10.

And please _PLEASE_ don't try and exclude all non OSS from any project. It does no good to say "THIS ISN'T MY KIND OF FREE!~" and parade around screaming at the top of your lungs. I love linux and its kin. I made a living as a linux admin for a while (ran an ISP for almost 3 years with a $0 budget for software) and use FreeBSD (which is WAY more free in its licensing than the GPL if you ask me) as a server OS to host random things. I'm not the enemy, just a boy with an opinion.
