Actually, TVs normally don't show all pixels, some of them are lost in the borders. Better only use 600 by 456 (see the wikipedia entries for "Title safe" and "Overscan amounts").

720x480 = TV NTSC
640x480 = Game NTSC
However, neither include the HUD on the bottom. |
