This project looks pretty good and all, but I have on main concern. Where's the openness?
Tuxido seems like he's making some good progress, but I haven't been able to find anything directly related to it. Wouldn't it progress faster if we all shared code and ideas? A code repository would be a good start.
And what's all this talk about limited beta testing? That sounds like some silly Windows program and not a Free Software/Open Source project. By the way, if you distribute Free Software then you also have to distribute the source code and rights to redistribute it. So if there really is a 'limited beta' then this is really just a proprietary program of questionable legal status that I want no part in.
As a side note, it'd be nice to know where the donations are going... |

There's stuff on the wiki and forums. Every day there's news posts!

I figure he's working solidly (or playing ) - setting up a code repository would take time away from that. I do agree with the opensource ethos of "Release Early, Release Often"... and re-inventing the wheel isn't a good use of time.

Speculation: Could be for hosting reasons (why when google code has free SVN/file hosting?) or pure elitism
Fact: You only need to give the source code to people who *have* a GPL application (assuming any part of what Tuxido changes is originally covered by the GPL). Nobody has anything yet so any accusations of oppressive licencing should probably wait till then!

Have it your way Even if Tuxido was somehow planning to keep all his research/code from you, plenty of other community members here and around the 'net are working concurrently and are willing to share. |

I may have been a little touchy, I apologize if that was the case.
If a repository is a issue of time/hosting I've had some experience setting up SVN repositories and would be willing to help get one going or host one if it's not allowed at the wiili.org hosts.
As for beta's if it's GPL'd then you may be right you only have to give source code to those who have the program, but any of the beta testers would then also be allowed to give that source code away to anyone else. |
