I have a home theater room with a 110" screen and screen is surrounded by black speaker cloth (eg. hiding the speakers, etc).
I've built an IR sensor bar and placed it behind the speaker cloth but it's just not powerful enough. It works, but I need to max the sensitivity on the Wii to even get it half-way decent and even then the cursor jumps around like crazy.
I'm currently using http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail?name=67-1001-ND these guys from DigiKey and can't seem to find anything more powerful.
Can anybody help me out?[/url] |

What about building an array of four or eight IR LEDs on each side, close together. I bet that would fix it.
Alternatively, though it's more complicated, you could set it up so that the IR LEDs pulse quickly at much higher power - typically something with a 100mA max steady current can take up to an Amp if pulsed, but you'd have to check the specs for the appropriate frequencies.
What results do you get if you put the sensor bar in front of the speaker cloth? Perhaps you just need to build a better looking sensor bar so that it doesn't matter if it's showing at the top/bottom of the screen, even inside if you're projecting!
I'm going to try and mod the Wii's own sensor bar to run off USB later this week or next week, but you could easily cut off the connector and hook up the long cable to 12V of batteries (8*1.5V but I think it's only drawing 20-30mA or so) or mod it to run off less batteries if you need to. |
