I did some searches and could not find if anyone has done this. (let me know if I am wrong).
Hers how I made my sensor bar. I took 2 optical USB mice and took them apart. Then I removed all the extra stuff (wheel, screws, exce...) so I just had the boards and wires intact. I un-soldered the red LEDs from the mouse boards. Then I found 2 old remotes (any kind) with strong IR LEDs. I checked the IR LEDs by looking at them through my cell phone camera and you can see them flashing brightly. I took the remotes apart and un-soldered the IR LEDs. I plugged in the USB end of the cable to the PC (you hear windows recognize the “mouse” I am only using the USB as a power source. Then I touched the IR LEDs to the solder points where the red LEDs were on the mouse board until they turned on (using the cell phone camera to test like before). After they were verified working I soldered them into place exactly like the red LEDs were. The process needs to be done twice to get 2 of them (2 IR LEDs) and it uses 2 USB ports on the PC. I tested with GlovePIE WiiMouseIR script and it works. I guess you could use an externally powered usb hub to power them since that’s all you use the USB ports for. It didn’t take me long (10 minutes) to assemble the 2 mouse boards after I rounded up all the parts. |
