Hey all. I've been looking all-over the internet for drivers for these controllers... I'm very interested in using one with MAX/MSP and was curious how things were going.
My OS knowledge is rather shallow... It wouldn't be too hard to convert anything to Mac OS X would it?

Awesome... hopefully in the near future someone can bundle that up into a complete driver.

The evidence from Linux so far is that the Wiimote is a standard Bluetooth device which follows the HID standard (used by USB and Bluetooth keyboards, mice, gamepads, and many other input devices). Unfortunately, it advertises rather unusual capabilities, since it is an unusual piece of hardware, and for some reason OS X does not recognize it as a generic HID device when you connect it. If someone figures out how to do that, then it would be possible to make use of it in OS X applications using something like GamePad Companion.
The problem is that without the Bluetooth HID driver acknowledging the Wiimote, the Wiimote just turns itself off after 20 seconds. For now, I have given up trying to fix this, and switched to doing development in Parallels:
http://www.wiili.org/forum/accessing-the-wiimote-from-parallels-vm-on-macos-x-t194.html
Fortunately, the reverse engineering of the Wiimote HID commands that Andy is doing will directly apply to all operating systems (yay standards!) so if someone eventually gets OS X to play nice, the knowledge gained from the Linux side will port right over. |
