yep kind of media center would be great. And maybe some sort of communication apps between PC and Wii over the wireless network (if you have it) Wink I'd also like chat programs like MSN Messenger and that kind of stuff.

I'm liking Lorenzo's ideas here. I'd be ecstatic about being able to say, stream videos from my TV to my Wii and thus my TV. WAY easier than running cable!

Being able to access the SD card slot would be excellent, as would being able to run MAME.

Good luck on this project! This could be really cool!

MAME sounds good but I say an mp3 player program would be even better.

how about an iTunes-esque program that could allow you to stream audio/video over a wireless network, maybe also allow you to stream it to the ds?

How about somehow storing Linux on the Wiimote itself it's a long shot but then you could easily take the OS anywhere. Maybe when you connect the Wiimote with Linux on it to the Wii a new Linux channel will show up that you can boot off of. This is kinda really really out there but would be sweet

I believe that the Wiimote only has 6kb of storage - which is only enough for basic configuration storage. You could possibly store a (very) small program on it, but not even a very small version of Linux.

I do like the ideas of using the Wii as a multimedia frontend though - either for Myth, or even if it could just browse a windows (samba) network share and play movie files, etc.

I've said it elsewhere, but this might be the best place for it, and that's to have something similar to Xbox Media Centre. Being able to stream music & TV programs off of a USB HDD or a NAS would be great.
