Meh I wouldn't get too excited... Most of these videos they post on YouTube etc about supposed Wii hacks usually turn out to be fake as hell. Watch them with a grain of salt. _________________ Supah Mario ownz j00 f00!~

| Yeah, I wouldn't trust very many youtube videos. The reliability of them is almost slim to none. The only things I have seen to be true are those using GlovePie, DarwiinRemote, etc. Stuff you can find here at your wonderful WiiLi. |

DVD playback is indeed possible, using the homebrew mfe player.
Basically if you can get MFE to run using the sd-card and action replay or via a modded wii and a bootable dvd, you can use MFE player to open to dvd files.
2 Problems though that wouldnt be hard to fix with a re-worked mfe player.
1. The current mfe player doesnt have the DVDcss (might have the wrong name there) so it cant play normal encryped dvd's but play's backed up DVD's where they have been re-encoded unecrypted.
2. It only plays the one file at a time, eg you have to select the next dvd file to continue playing the DVD.
Both these issues seem rather trivial to fix. |

Interesting: http://www.gc-linux.org/wiki/Mfe-distro
Does the gamecube (or Wii in gamecube mode) really have the horse power to decode DVDs at full framerate, considering, AFAIK there is no YUV conversion and motion compensation hardware availible in GCLinux?
Secondly, in Gamecube mode, is the seek limited to the normal 3" disc area? Which would mean that only 3" DVDs would work. |

It appears that the regular GC lens is able to read standard DVDs, you just have to remove or change the plastic box. _________________ Sorry for bad english...

The seek of the GC lens was all in the modchip! So it won't work!
NO GC modchip = No modified lens range in GC mode = No DVD playback =) _________________ ~Triforce~
