I think the gamecube discs spun in the opposite direction as most conventional disc drives. Is this going to be the same for the Wii discs and if so, how will that hinder development?

no no no no no... i hate it when people say that the Gamecube spun backwards and read the disc from the outside in and flipped itself over and danced around inside the Gamecube. This is a terrible rumor and it is not true. just open up your Gamecube while the disc is spinning and you will see it goes the same direction as everything.

This confusion frequently occurs. Actually, GameCube discs are read from the outside edge of the disc to the inside of the disc. The Wii discs are read from the inside to the outside like normal DVD discs.
