Well, this sounds promising.. Do you guys think you will be able to implement analog support for the nunchuck control stick (or at least digital) ?.. This has been one of my major gripes regarding Wiimote software on OS X for some time.. Without support for the control stick, it is all but pointless to play 3D games using the Wiimote/nunchuck combination. Also, do you think you could give an estimate on when your first release will be, and the name of the software ?..
Sorry to ask so many questions, but I have been waiting for something like GlovePIE to come to Mac OSX for a LONG time...
Thanks for your efforts !.. |

For the people at darwiinremote,
When are the joysticks going to work for the nunchuck and the classic controller? |

The DarwiinRemote framework supports the analog inputs. But right now there's no way that those inputs are translated to Mac OS X joystick movements. There is a guy who has made a virtual HID (human interface device) driver that should let us make the Wiimote - and attachments -appear as standard input devices.
Unfortunately, there aren't any active developers at the moment. I'm a middle-aged guy with family, job, etc., etc. keeping me from spending any real time on the project. We (the DarwiinRemote team) really need some high school or college kids with some passion and time to jump on board and help out.
With Wii Fit and the balance board out now, that may motivate me to get hacking again.
Sorry.

Just thought I would mention...
New software has recently been released called "Wiiji" ( http://wiiji.veltrop.com/ ), which allows OS X to see the Wiimote (along with the nunchuck & classic controller) as standard game joysticks via a VirtualHID kernel extension.
While this is certainly a welcomed development, it currently only supports basic controller functions and no motion/IR controls, and (to my knowledge) cannot be used in conjunction with DarwiinRemote or OSCulator. Perhaps the people behind DarwiinRemote and OSCulator could contact the Wiiji developer and make plans to develop a piece of software that encompasses all of what DarwiinRemote, OSCulator, and Wiiji currently support (or at least allow for the programs to work together)... It would be nice to be able to have a single piece of OS X Wiimote software somewhat akin to GlovePIE/PPJoy on Windows, as opposed to several pieces of software that only support selected functionality and cannot be used together. |

| I was busy with game development but right but I'm heading back into this project today as I'm actually going to need to be able to use my Wii Remote for more wii development on Mac. So jasenj1 I'm still interested in helping out creating a scripting and GUI interface and willing to do come coding as well. |

Which project are you referring to ? DarwiinRemote ?
Anyway, good to hear it. I am also aspiring to be a game developer as well. Are you developing a game for Mac that uses the Wii controllers, or using the Mac as your development platform for the Wii console ? You seem to indicate the latter, but judging from your apparent need to develop software to use the Wii controllers on Mac I am guessing that you do not have the official Wii SDK... A homebrew game, perhaps ?..
and while I'm on the subject... I really wish Nintendo was more lax with their developer SDKs. It's a shame, as I recently became aware that the Unity Game Engine for Mac is now an authorized Wii middleware provider. It looks pretty awesome ( http://unity3d.com/company/news/wii-press ), but since I am not part of a well-established game development company I cannot use it. Oh well... |
