In regards to the 12.16 volts the wii feeds the bar:
Can you just take 8 batteries (1.5 x 8 ~ 12v) and connect them to the existing wii sensor bar? Disregarding battery life, is the roughly 12 volts the eight batteries supplies enough to run the lights enough to work?
I'd take apart my sensor bar, but I want to wait till I can buy a replacement.
I'm a coward. |

| That should work (8 1.5v alkalines).. Any ~12 volt DC source(10 1.2v NiMH/NiCd..) should work, but a regulated voltage is probably the best/safest choice... I'm not sure how much current the sensor bar draws either, but surely not more than some AAs can handle.. |

| This thread has actually inspired me, but not in the way it was originally posted. Instead of making a usb sensor bar, what I'm aiming to do is embed the led's into my tv. To eliminate the bar all together. I'll keep everyone posted on the progress.. |

This is a fascinating discussion, if a bit too complicated for me. Apart from the candle idea, as seen in the great youtube video, and maybe attaching LEDs to the TV itself, many of us less technical minded would greatly appreciate you wizards giving us a relatively simple solution, like:
1. Cut sensor bar cord;
2. Attach wire(s) from sensor bar to Radio Shack part XXX-XXX;
3. Add batteries. |

| Is that wii sensor bar plug conform to any standard? or is it wii specific. |
