I haven't done much looking, but im quite sure its specific to the Wii.. I've been having some problems with power and USB lately, but if you just want to add batteries to the sensor bar then i'll see if i can come up with a simple set of directions..

Hmmm.. i was wondering how i would go about making a whole new bar that is not only independantly battery powered but also 5+ IR LED's for a larger range side to side? and how might i go about making it a longer range from the tv?

if you wanted to make it longer range from the tv, just get more powerful IR leds.

long range or wide angle can all be done using many High-current IR LEDs.

With 12 volts you can use 9 LEDs in a row, best if you do 2 high-spread and two high-intensity LEDs per side then I think.

I havent tried this but I think its worth playing arround with...

For added range try adding a small magnifying glass to the bar. You will have to play around to get it to focus right but should be completely reasonable.

Page from a communications handbook (One of the ones by Forrest M. Mims III, they are sold at radioshack to people that want a book with easy to build and understand electronics in them. His Basic electronics handbook is very good. I have it and would recomend it to anyone that doesnt know much. Although I know almost all thats in it I still find it usefull since it has some of those diagrams that are hard to find since everyone assumes you already know what it says.) (I think they still sell these):

If you look in the middle the idea is since leds come with a lens designed to somewhat focus the light but within a (usually) 40-70 degree cone.

well that would work in theory but wouldnt the magnifying glass make the light seam larger not brighter? u need a bright light to have the "camera" see it from a longer range dont you?

that diagram really helped i havnt tried it yet but umm what about placeing IR leds in a formation like this:

O = IR LED

O -2ft- O -2ft- O
2ft{
O -2ft- O -2ft- O
2ft{
O -2ft- O -2ft- O

do you think that would work or just throw the Wii off to hell?
