Hi all
following a recent re-install of XP, I am having major problems setting up my bluetooth adapter/glovepie/wiimote connection.
everything was fine before the re-install; i was using the generic xp drivers for the adapter with no problems; now however, i simply cannot get the wiimote talking to glovepie, none of the test scripts work, and i've also tried widdcomm and bluesoleil drivers (wiimote shows up as connected and transmitting ok, but glovepie ain't listening).
Can some kind soul with a similar setup (Win XP Pro SP2) suggest a foolproof method/walkthru/talkthru to fix this, please...............i'm tearing my hair out here guys
the bluetooth adapter is an advent ade c1edr

I don't think there is a foolproof way for setting up bluetooth. Also I don't think many people are successful with the XP stack. My device works properly with its older drivers which are based off of widcomm drivers.
Are you positive that the wiimote is paired?
Do the 4 flashing lights turn off after an amount of time after you have connected the wiimote?
Here's my experience with bluetooth.
For my bluetooth device the XP stack is installed by default which does not work properly. I have to manually update the driver so it uses the correct one:
RightClick My Computer -> Manage->DeviceManager->Bluetooth Devices
Also I have to select: "don't search I will choose the driver myself"
Or else the correct driver will not be installed for my device.
While you're in device manager check:
Human Interface Devices
On my computer a wiimote installs the following drivers:
Bluetooth virtual HID keyboard
HID compliant game controller
I'd say if you can't see these then your wiimote did not install the drivers and you did not hold down 1 & 2 buttons long enough when pairing initially. (Initial pairing takes longer as the drivers should be installed. On my computer a dialog box pops up in the top left corner for a few seconds when the drivers are installed)
It should be safe to remove these HID wiimote drivers and then pair the wiimote(s) again. Although don't know if this will help.
If you have multiple drivers like the above you have probably paired more than one wiimote in the past. You can check in GlovePIE if the wiimote is seen as second controller etc. Test using this script:
| Code: | Wiimote1.leds = 1
Wiimote2.leds = 2
Wiimote3.leds = 4
Wiimote4.leds = 8
Wiimote5.leds = 3
Wiimote6.leds = 6
Wiimote7.leds = 12
Wiimote8.leds = 15

Anyway thats what I have to do to get things working. I have no idea what will work with your bluetooth device. It's too bad bluetooth devices are so sketchy and not yet simple plug and play devices. Well, I don't know what else you could do except go out and buy a device which is known to work properly.
Good luck. |

Thanks for this; can you just clarify what you mean by 'manually update the driver' (i know my way around admin tools/device manager etc)? should i uninstall or remove the generic bluetooth adapter xp stack, then manually update? where do these new drivers reside?
Do you suggest i remove the HID device drivers too, and then try to reinstall?
I've been holding down buttons 1 and 2 for so long my thumb's sore!!!
What used to happen in glovepie (when everything was working)was, the wiimote leds would flash, then when i run then stop a script, the leds went out. This also happens now, but no response (axes/buttons etc) from glovepie.
Anyway, i'll try your suggestions and thanks again
PS, which adapter do you use?

No it's an advent bluetooth dongle and i used the XP self-install. It installed ok; then the wiimote installed ok and shows up in device manager; LEDs flash ok when i fire it up, but glovepie doesn't respond. I used exactly the same setup before, for several months without a problem.
I'm just asking forum members to tell me which bluetooth adapter/driver setup they use successfully (i know they'll all differ)
Thanks |
