I've actually aplauded with the audience the first few times I watched that vifeo, and I still do it every now and then when re-re-re-re-watching it Xp

Hopefully this leads to something. It's a great idea, but there's still a modchip requirement, making the whole thing useless to most Wii owners. Hopefully, once they get more stuff running, they can crack the keys used for updates, write an updater for PC that mimics the Nintendo server, and then allow non-chipped Wii owners to fool their Wii consoles into "upgrading" to a hacked FW.

Or, they could crack the code for SD card Wii channels and then make a Homebrew channel which could be loaded through SD.

Once the hardware of one is unlocked, hopefully they can find more information about the system's software and then write more direct exploits that could get other consoles running homebrew as well.

Or, maybe a company capable of pressing discs will create SDLoad type discs (such as the GameCube SD Media Launcher, but for Wii) that boot on unmodified Wii consoles because they have the "barcode" on them. One thing: Can the Wii play NHL Hits (or whatever it's called) for GameCube? Apparently that's the game that Datel extracted the keys from when they made the Action Replay and SDML for 'Cube, because those discs show up as NHL HITS (or something similar).

Yes, but by fooling Nintendo's update system you'd violate the TOS for WiiConnect24. Although, if there's a way to setup your/our own networks for that (read: WiiPN?) then I guess that isn't so much of an issue.

From everything I've read the more doors we open, the murkier the water gets. I, for one, don't have a chipped Wii, and I'm not intending on chipping it any time soon.

I guess I'm more worried from a conservative "don't want to brick the console" approach, for universal use. Again, I do like what Nintendo have done with the Wii, but I'm not sure how far we'd get by getting WiiConnect24 bans Wink

Secondly, if the Wii is using wireless, is it possible there's a way to get the data from the firmware update from the packets? I figure that some of it may be useful - my sister already ran the update while I was out, otherwise I'd see what I could do (although I'd no doubt be asking for help on that).

Just a few ideas Smile

i wonder if the firmware sent via wireless from nintendo is encrypted using a similar key?

if possible, someone could decrypt it, hackzor it and release a WiiMe (points to FlashMe for DS)

you would run a server on your PC and do some mac spoofing shit or something, lol

i tried running a server on my pc for FlashMe, but you needed some special network adapter. Maybe it would be different for the Wii, but since this video proves it can be done with a DVD, then it would be nice to wait and have the easier option. Did anyone ever put this all aside and think about how you would convert it to a runable file, modded wii or not.

it might be possible to just replace the "firmware" partition of a game thats known to have a firmware upgrade, so it installs a custom update!
but this would raise piracy issues but would surely be future proof!
